HEIR Private Family Films ("HEIR", "we") is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. We film families' private stories, so we hold what you share with us to the standard of the BC Personal Information Protection Act and Canada's PIPEDA.
What we collect
- From our website forms: your name, email, phone number, who you would like filmed, where they live and anything you tell us about them.
- For the guide: your first name and email address.
- To make your film: interview footage and audio, family photographs, documents and home movies you lend us, and the names and stories they contain.
- To get paid: billing details, processed by our payment provider. We never see or store full card numbers.
Why we use it
- To reply to your enquiry and plan your film.
- To film, edit, deliver and safely store your family's film.
- To send the guide you asked for.
- To send occasional family stories and gift ideas, only if you ticked the box to receive them. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Your film stays private
- Your footage, photographs and film belong to your family. We never sell or share them.
- We never use any part of your film in our marketing, website or social media without your written permission.
- Originals you lend us are returned to you when the film is delivered.
Where it is stored
Footage is kept on encrypted drives and in a secure cloud backup. Our website and its forms are hosted by Netlify. Some of our providers store data outside Canada, which means it may be subject to the laws of that country. We keep a secure archive copy of every master file, so a lost drive never means a lost film, unless you ask us to delete it.
Website analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website, for example which pages are read and how people find us. It uses cookies and collects information such as your approximate location, device and the pages you visit. It does not collect what you type into our forms. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.
Who we share it with
Only the people who help us make your film, and only what they need: camera crews and editors who work under a written confidentiality agreement, our payment processor, our email service, our website host and Google Analytics. We do not sell personal information, ever.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted (except where we must keep records for tax purposes). Email drew@heirfilms.com and we will reply within 30 days.
